Belterra Park Cincinnati Casino Trip Review

May 9, 2022 By Jon Friedl - Professor Slots

East of Cincinnati, just outside of the city limits, lies Belterra Park. This horse racetrack also offers slot machines and this is casino trip report and review.

Belterra Park, East of Cincinnati on the Ohio River

The original operators of Ohio’s four stand-alone casinos backed a proposed constitutional amendment. In November 2009, 52% of voters approved the constitutional amendment allowing one casino in the cities of:

  • Cincinnati
  • Cleveland
  • Columbus
  • Toledo

Subsequent changes in state lottery legislation allowed pari-mutual racetracks to begin offer video lottery terminal (VLT) style slot machines in 2012. These were the first racinos in Ohio and includes Belterra Park.

Theoretical Payout Limit and Return Statistics

The Ohio Casino Control Commission is responsible for table games slot machine casino gambling at Ohio’s four stand-alone casinos.

The Ohio Lottery is responsible for horse racing and the video lottery machines found at Ohio’s seven racinos.

Ohio’s Gaming Control Act states that the minimum theoretical payout is 85% for slot machines at Ohio’s casino resorts. This same payout limit applies to slot machines at Ohio’s racetracks with slot machines according to the Ohio Lottery’s Video Lottery Game Rules.

Each gaming commission has return statistics available by:

  • Month
  • Casino

I’ve plotted the player win percentage return statistics by month and casino. As is often true, all four casino resorts had a better return than all seven racetracks with slot machines. Belterra Park usually ranks last in the state.

Food

Belterra Park is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The state of Ohio does not permit smoking in a commercial facility of this size. This racino does not have an attached hotel nor does it have a parking structure although it has plenty of lot space and including valet service.

This racetrack facility with slots has a sports bar and grill, a fine dining restaurant, a burger joint, and an exclusive VIP club. When I visited on early Sunday afternoon, only the sports bar and VIP lounge were open for business.

The Boyd Rewards Loyalty Program

Belterra Park is operated by Boyd Gaming, so its players’ club is their Boyd Rewards. It has five tier levels where spending $5 will earn one point.

Tier level point requirements are:

  1. Ruby for new guests
  2. Sapphire for those who have earned 750 points
  3. Emerald after earning 15,000 points
  4. Onyx after earning 50,000 points
  5. Titanium after earning 200,000 points

I regularly visited this casino before it was purchased, and operations were taken over by Body Gaming but haven’t spent much time there since. So, I am a new guest within the Ruby tier.

I’ve just spent one hour playing slot machines at Belterra Park. I walked in with a $300 bankroll and left with $91.15. But I earned 201 points in the Boyd Rewards player system. At $5 per club point, I spent about $200 of my bankroll and along with about $800 in winnings. This means I cycled my original bankroll over three times.

My Belterra Park Slots Experience

Upon arrival at 12:45 p.m., players’ card in hand, I headed straight for a Fu Dai slot machine I’d seen on my last visit to this casino. About a week ago, I was trying to get an appointment with their Marketing Department which involved a lot of waiting by the guard station.

From that entrance to the casino, near the escalators rather than the racetrack, on my prior visit I had a chance to look around. What I saw was my location, location, location strategy at work. Near the guard station, I saw two slot machines arranged to be highly viewable by anyone leaving. And a few minutes I saw the second of two hand pay jackpots to a gentleman sitting at the right-most slot machine.

So naturally, on this visit to play slots and review Belterra Park, I went to straight to that penny machine, put $100, and proceed to make minimum, mid-level, and maximum bets until the entire bankroll was spent. And it was spent. No hand pay for me, unfortunately!

But on my last visit I saw two hand pays. One was this machine, but the other was at the casino floor’s main intersection. Walking from the guard station, you’ll spot the high-limit room at the end of that main aisle. But before getting there, you’ll come across the other main aisle which, turning left, leads directly to the racetrack.

At this main intersection of two main aisle, I saw a hand pay on a Crystal Star Deluxe $1 denomination slot machine. Turn left at the intersection, stop, and stand facing the racetrack in the distance. It the second slot machine on the right in a two-machine row.

I had a wonderful time playing this machine, which surprised me. Minimum bet was $1, but maximum bet was $9. Making such large bets isn’t a good idea with only a $300 bankroll. I spent most of it playing that machine, then won $300 on a $9 bet, played that down until I only had $100 left over, and walked away.

Next, I tested for my 5-spin method. As usual, I made minimum bets on twenty machines. I got a taste on nineteen of them. I started with $100 and ended with $91.15. The point here is that these tastes weren’t the smallest I’ve seen elsewhere.

What to Do if Visiting Belterra Park

If you get the opportunity to visit Belterra Park, recognize from my experience that my strategy Location, Location, Location works great at this casino. I’ve identified one slot machine for you at the main intersection. Perhaps with more than an hour of playing and observing, you’ll find a few more.

Also, my 5-spin method works great also. Yes, I didn’t make a profit. But how long might I have continued to play my $100 until it was finally depleted? Quite a while, I think. It’s an inexpensive way to have fun at Belterra Park.

Summary of Belterra Park

Just east of Cincinnati on I-275 on the Iowa River stands Belterra Park. I review this horse racetrack which also offers slot machines.
